Brixel was developed as a freestanding kinetic art piece. The individual bricks create a constantly moving and adapting wall. 

​

Because there was a smaller demand for freestanding installations than initially projected, the design was later altered to be wall mounted. This allowed for easier assembly, more cost-efficient parts, and more powerful motors.
